FUNAI GETS NUC ACCREDITATION

The staff and students of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo were full of joy and excitements when the results of the accreditation exercise which the National Universities Commission conducted on its academic programmes were released. The National Universities Commission had between 27th and 30th, October, 2015 visited the University and carried out accreditation exercises on seventeen (17) academic programmes of the University.

In a letter written to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Oye Ibidapo-Obe, conveying the results of the exercise, the Director, Quality Assurance of the National Universities Commission, Dr N. B Saliu on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof Julius Okogie stated that none of the academic programmes failed the rigorous accreditation exercise

The results show that Computer Science and Geology made full accreditation status while Accounting, Business Administration, English, History, Applied Geophysics; Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology; Physics, Economics, Political Science; Psychology and Sociology made interim accreditation status.

It could be recalled that Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo kicked off its academic activities with seventeen programmes when the University was newly established in 2012.

Reacting to the outcome of the accreditation exercise, Professor Ibidapo Obe expressed his gratitude to all those that made it possible and pledged to continue to reposition the university by building more infrastructure and bringing in more ‘first class’ academics to ensure that all the old programmes and subsequent new ones met full accreditation in the next visit of the NUC team.
