It is the dream of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI) to groom students that are grounded in every spheres of human life including sports and to graduate individuals that are not only world beaters in their chosen academic fields but also top performers in sports. The University recognizes the importance of sports in shaping the health and economic life of people and therefore has consistently continued to encourage its students to get involved in different approved sporting activities by providing the needed facilities on campus.
In view of this, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Distinguished Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe has graciously approved that the University participates in the under listed sporting events in 2016. The essence is to give both staff and students the opportunity to be physically fit, build bond of friendships with other staff and students of other Universities within and outside the country and more importantly, win laurels and establish the University as a force to be reckoned with in the sporting world.
Schedule of Events
- All Nigerian Universities Staff Sports Games (NUSSA), to be hosted by National Open University at Kaduna State in February, 2016.
- South East Universities’ qualifiers for NUGA, holding at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State in March, 2016.
- Nigeria Universities Games (NUGA) finals, holding at Federal University of Agriculture, Markudi, Benue State in April, 2016.
- Ebonyi State Higher Institution Games, holding at Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State in June, 2016.
- South East Universities Games (SEUGA), holding at Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus, Anambra State.
- West African Universities Games (WAUG), holding at University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State in November, 2016.
The University would be participating in ten sporting events which include: Volleyball (male/female); Football (male); Taekwondo (male/female); Table Tennis (male/female); Athletics (male/female); Scrabble (male/female); Basketball (male/female); Chess (male/female); Dart (male) and Golf (male/female).
Staff and students who want to showcase their sports talents are enjoined to liaise with the Sports Unit and be prepared to train very hard in other to make the University proud at the fiestas.
