Prof Philip Omoke 1The staff of the newly created Faculty of Management and Social Sciences converged together on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 to dedicate the Faculty to God.

The ceremony which was performed before the inaugural faculty board meeting was performed by the District superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Abakaliki, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Nshii at the Faculty of Science Auditorium, with the Vice Chancellor in attendance.

Rev. Emmanuel NshiiRev. Dr. Emmanuel Nshii who is also the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ebonyi State Chapter, described the quest to seek God first in the affairs of the Faculty as the right step in the right direction, adding that God is the reservoir of knowledge.

The Minister of God advised the Faculty to always carry out their duties with the fear of God, adding that as the character moulders of the youth they had a burden to nurture future leaders that are free of vices and immorality.

Untitled-3He prayed against negative attitudes that would put the faculty in bad light and reminded them that by seeking God first in the affairs of the faculty, they had entered into covenant with God, assuring that as long as they lived by the dictates of the covenant, God would always answer their prayers.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, commended the dean and members of the faculty for the initiative as one would hardly achieve anything without God.

He described the social sciences as the hub of the university and charged them to live up to the expectation through their teaching and research especially as FUNAI aspires to world class status.

Management Faculty staffHe regretted that the universities in the country were not doing well and charged the staff to change the trend. “You need to impact on your environment and I am looking forward to a dynamic, vibrant and resourceful faculty of social sciences that will attract national and international attention”, the Vice chancellor concluded.

Earlier, the dean of the faculty, Professor Philip Omoke, said they decided to take the case of the faculty to God first because he is the author of knowledge.

Professor Omoke described the faculty as the ‘nucleus of the University’ and promised that having started with God as the foundation, there would remarkable break-through by the staff and students of the faculty.

He thanked the Vice Chancellor for the magnanimity of the Senate in carving out the faculty, and the ministers of God for honouring the invitation and promised run a vibrant faculty.

The faculty of management and social sciences was carved out from the faculty of humanities and social sciences at the 32nd meeting of the Senate.

Tree planting with the Vice-Chancellor2The Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Wednesday, June 15, 2016, launched a novelty by floating what they call Pioneer Garden.

The Garden is meant to honour and immortalise staff and students who started the institution five years ago.

The Garden is located in the east of the University, akin to the Biblical Garden of Eden that shares the same location! It measures 174metres by 62 metres.

Some pioneer management staff and students took turns to plant trees in the Garden during the flag-off ceremony performed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Chinedum who initiated the programme.

The Vice Chancellor planted the first tree in the park on behalf of the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe before planting his own. VC and Burser planting treesOthers who planted trees in the park were the pioneer Registrar, Mr. G. O. Chukwu, the Bursar, Alhaji Rafiu Aliu; the University Librarian, Dr. O. O. Professor Nwajiuba said the essence was to give honour to whom it was due, contending that pioneering was a privilege that was rare to come by. He said the Garden would be adorned with seats so that students and even the pioneer students could, in future, take their families to relax there.

He thanked the staff and students who donated plants for the occasion and promised that their names would be immortalised in a plaque to be erected in the Garden while those that planted trees would have their names etched on the trees they planted.Registra planting tree12s

Professor Nwajiuba made this promise while declaring open the workshop on Women Empowerment organised by the Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo Women Association (FUNAI-WA) held on Thursday, the 28th of July, 2016 at the Main Auditorium, Take off Campus of the University.

The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Sunday Elom, noted that even though gender discrimination and bias against the female sex were rampant in the under-developed world, it would not be allowed to take root in FUNAI.

Professor Nwajiuba expressed regret that under-developed nations tended to obscure the invaluable roles women play in their social and economic milieu and attributed it to low exposures and stereotyped ideas about the place of  women in the society.

He said FUNAI would continue to pursue gender-friendly policies, adding that the Senate of the Institution had just elected the first female dean and Council member in the person of Professor Gloria Emezue. “We will stop at nothing in ensuring that women’s social, economic and academic visibility is upheld while also promoting gender equality”.

The Vice Chancellor commended the vision of the Chairperson of FUNAI-WA in championing the cause of women empowerment and assured the association of the backing of the University.

In her opening remarks, the Chairperson of FUNAIWA, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Nwajiuba, said the need to orientate the women of their place in the family was critical if women must attain their lofty heights in the society.

Dr Mrs Nwajiuba pointed out that the choice of the theme of the empowerment seminar: “Healthy career woman” was apt because conflicting domestic schedules and that of the workplace compound the stress women go through which often resulted in their dreams being truncated.

The FUNAI-WA Chairperson who is also the wife of the Vice Chancellor said relieving the women of some stress was on the way since she is working tirelessly to ensure that Crèche, Nursery and Primary School were established, adding that the resource persons had been carefully chosen to speak on various issues affecting career women.

As a result, it is necessary to make the following clarifications so that prospective students will be abreast of the prevailing situation to avoid falling into the hands of impostors, quacks and fraudsters.

2. That the University has not fixed any fee for the said test since the date/dates have not been announced;

He described the students as “the soaring eagles of FUNAI who must choose their passion, areas of emphasis, field of excellence and above all, possess enabling values and character”.

Professor Nwajiuba commended them for overcoming the initial odds and deprivations occasioned by pioneering to graduate and wished them greatness, success and excellence in their live endeavours while reminded them not to forget FUNAI, their alma mater.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the pioneer out-going students had been tutored and mentored by excellent lecturers and were being released to soar as the eagles, the king of birds, in peace and confidence, dominating their environment.

In a lecture to mark the occasion, a visiting Professor to the University, Professor Betram Ekejiuba Nwoke, enjoined the out-going students to exhibit the characteristics of the eagle as displayed in the University logo, which marked it out as special and distinct.

According to him, “eagles are living symbols of power, freedom, transcendence, beauty, bravery, courage, honour, pride, determination and grace” contending that the out-going students should exhibit these traits in their daily lives.

The Professor of Public Health Parasitology and Epidemology and former acting Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, charged the pioneer students to be focused, tenacious and discriminatory as the eagle and as well soar higher than others both in character, scholarship and conduct.

Professor Nwoke lauded the found fathers FUNAI for their vision, and the drive and determination of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, to create a world-class university in the rural community of Ikwo and contended that if the out-going students exhibited all the qualities of an eagle the sky would be their limit.

The occasion featured the inauguration of FUNAI Alumni Association and the handing over of bannerettes to the President, Vice President and Secretary of the Association by the Vice Chancellor.
